Today I joined an online tutorial about making face masks. Run by Sarah, Stitched Up’s self confessed up-and-coming YouTube star, it was a lovely way to spend lunchtime.
We started off making the pattern, then cut the fabric. The mask can be hand sewn or machine stitched, whatever you fancy. I used my machine.
Like many home-made masks, it has a lining so you use 2 pieces of fabric. The outer and lining use the same pattern, so it’s easy.
The darts give shaping around the nose and chin, and Sarah explained how to do this with her easy, chatty style. I held my efforts up to the camera for her to check.
I used a bamboo print cotton fabric for both outer and lining. It would have benefitted from ironing but it’s pretty good for a lunchtime session!
The pattern is freely available on the Stitched Up website and includes a link to a video tutorial with Sarah, too. It was really straightforward to make, so give it a go! Visit their site at https://stitchedup.coop/diy-covid-face-mask-pattern/
